Phase 7 Expanding the table

I started planning this in the summer of 2015. Construction began September 19, 2015.

I wanted to add some features such as the pit lane and wanted more track and the current table, at 58′ was making it difficult to add track. This was a 6′ x 6′ expansion roughly, will add over 30′ to the track length bringing it to just under 90′. It will have the pit lane, upgrade to 2.4 ghz wireless and 13 lane changing options.

After the table was finished, I set the track up to make sure it all fit and my design was solid. This is a good time to test drive the track because it’s relatively easy to change at this point.

a little custom fitting was required where I had hacked into the previous terrain.

And… it looks like a good fit.

The one thing I did change was I added some borders to two of the turns.

You can buy these through Carrera but I didn’t like the way they looked and I found it easier to make it all transition smoothly by making them myself.

First, I cut foam board templates to go under the existing turn and extend beyond to support the border surface.

Then I laminated styrene on the foam board for the road surface and weighted it while the bondene dried so as to get as flat a road surface as I could.

A little Bondo glazing putting in the seams….

I then painted the road surface flat black and…. looks good to me!
