Here is where we started, Carrera 132 wireless GT set with expansion set on a plywood table, 17′ x 8′.
This will be completed in phases. The theme is European GT in an Alpine setting. Links to sequential phases are at the bottom of each page.
Phase 1, elevate the end section for the mountains.
To do this I designed it like a real road using Civil 3D. I did this so that I could create a surface of the finished grade and then using 3D solids I was able to extract perfect templates for my elevation supports.
Next, cut all the supporting pieces, draw out on the table where they go relative to the plan.
I used a combination of wood screws and white glue to attach them to the table.
Once this was finished, I used 1/8″ plywood to create the road surface. It’s an inch wider than the track on both sides.
The wall in front is by design. There is a cross over there and when the cars collide, they often fall to the concrete floor… not good for mirrors and spoilers… not to mention computer chips.
Here is the track after finishing phase one.
